Critical Role Season Four Reveals the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the central cast to undertake their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (the talented performer), the fierce warrior (the cast member), the cleric (Sam), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might seem unsuited, but the events of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and taking all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then paid off his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party reach areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The savior for his salvation and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and Wicander defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the recent installment’s post-show segment, we learn that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Seekers and Schemers tables.

Fans can anticipate discovering which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, available to watch on next week.
